At the end of a season full of twists and turns, FC Metz has finally validated its return to Ligue 1. Second in the standings, the Grenats are planning for next season. Mercato, summer calendar, particularities of this 2023/2024 edition, here is what awaits the Garnets.    After 38 days, and 25 consecutive matches without defeat in the league, FC Metz ended the 2022/2023 Ligue 2 season with a second place, synonymous with (re) rising to Ligue 1. However, the Garnets had to wait for the decisions of the Disciplinary Committee concerning the meeting Bordeaux - Rodez to officially celebrate this sporting success. From now on, place for a new edition in the first division, with its share of particularities.   THE CALENDAR OF LEAGUE 1 2023/2024 If there is one thing that has been long overdue, it is the calendar for this new season. The Professional Football League has been faced with exceptional organizational constraints for the coming season, in particular with the next Rugby World Cup (from September 8 to October 28) which will occupy Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 stadiums.   This season will also have the particularity of seeing only eighteen clubs evolve in this division. For the first day of the championship, FC Metz will travel to Roazhon Park to face Stade Rennais on the weekend of August 12 and 13.

The full schedule of FC Metz: D1: Stade Rennais – FC Metz D2: FC Metz – Olympique de Marseille D3: Clermont Foot – FC Metz D4: FC Metz – Reims Stadium D5: RC Lens – FC Metz D6: FC Metz – RC Strasbourg D7: Toulouse – FC Metz D8: FC Metz – OGC Nice D9: AS Monaco – FC Metz D10: FC Metz – Le Havre D11: Olympique Lyonnais – FC Metz D12: FC Metz – Nantes D13: Lorient – FC Metz D14: LOSC – FC Metz D15: FC Metz – Brest D16: FC Metz – Montpellier HSC D17: PSG – FC Metz D18: FC Metz – Toulouse D19: OGC Nice – FC Metz D20: FC Metz – Lorient D21: Olympique de Marseille – FC Metz D22: Montpellier HSC – FC Metz D23: FC Metz – Olympique Lyonnais D24: Nantes – FC Metz D25: FC Metz – Clermont Foot D26: Reims – FC Metz D27: FC Metz – AS Monaco D28: Brest – FC Metz D29: FC Metz – RC Lens D30: Le Havre – FC Metz D31: FC Metz – LOSC D32: FC Metz – Stade Rennais D33: Strasbourg – FC Metz D34: FC Metz – Paris SG As for the program for each day, the games are over on Monday evening. In Ligue 1, matches are played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Also note the return of video arbitration which was lacking in Ligue 2.  Promoted, FC Metz will have a simple first objective: to maintain itself at the end of the 34 days of the championship. The clubs ranked seventeenth and eighteenth at the end of the season will be relegated to Ligue 2. The sixteenth will play play-offs which will take place on May 30, 2024 (go) and June 2, 2024 (return). As for the race for Europe: the first three clubs will qualify for the prestigious Champions League, while the fourth will play in the third qualifying round. The fifth in the championship and the winner of the Coupe de France will qualify for the Europa League. Finally, the sixth will qualify for the play-off rounds of the Europa League Conference.  THE SUMMER MERCATO OF FC METZ After the calendar, the other subject that attracts attention is obviously that of the transfer window. This started on June 10 and will end on September 1. Invited in the Graoully Mag at the end of the season , the president of the club, Bernard Serin lingered on the subject. FC Metz will be one of the active clubs on the transfer market, even if some arrivals will depend on departures.  “The budget depends on the transfer window campaign since we will have income and expenditure (smile). Some players will be sold because they cannot stay in Metz or coveted by very big clubs. And we will have recruits. We have to get used to FC Metz to have added value from transfers. More sales than purchases, since we have two training centers in which we have spent millions and on which we expect returns. (…) There will be arrivals. We spent the whole day yesterday (note: June 07) with László Bölöni and Pierre Dréossi working on future recruits. We know that we will have to strengthen the backbone of the team. »
